Combine a dresser with a canvas painting to create a one of a kind piece with a hand painted look!

Artistic Furniture Makeover

How many of you would love to have a hand painted furniture piece but just don’t have the time (or maybe even the talent) to get it done? Riverside ReStore customer, Beth, combined a 3 drawer dresser and a gorgeous piece of art to create a beautiful piece with a hand painted feel.

Though this looks like it would be a long project to complete, it takes relatively little time. We ran into Beth buying the table and artwork at the ReStore just a few hours before she sent us the finished project!

                 What you will need:

  •  Furniture Piece
  • Canvas, Velvet, or Sturdy Paper Artwork (Beth used artwork on a velvet canvas. When choosing artwork size, keep in mind the area of the surface you wish to cover.)
  • Scrap Card Stock Paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam Brush
  • Razor
  • Scissors
  • Credit Card or Id (for smoothing out edges)
  • Pencil
  • All Purpose Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Screwdriver (For removing hardware)

1. Removed the drawers from the base and removed all hardware from desired canvas space.

2. Trace the front of the drawers onto the scrap paper to create a stencil.  Using the stencil, draw a cut line on the back of the canvas then cut the lines to create the face for the drawer. This process is repeated for each drawer.

3. Using a generous amount of Mod Podge and the Sponge Brush, adhere the canvas pieces to the drawer tops. The entire surface of the desired space should be covered with Mod Podge before attaching the canvas.

4. Use a credit card to smooth out wrinkles and a razor to clean up the edges.

5.Paint the remaining, uncovered surface. Wait to dry and reattach hardware.

Why recycled paint?

Amazon Select Paints are manufactured from quality, surplus paint that Amazon collects from government, businesses, and consumers. By replacing new paint with recycled paint, resources that would have been used in making the new paint, including the energy used to make and transport the paint and minerals, chemicals, and pigments are saved.

Using recycled content paint, prevents paint material from ending up in a landfill or, worse, down a drain. Recycled paint saves resources, saves energy, reduces pollution, and reduces landfill waste!
