Repurposed Medicine Cabinet
Repurposing an old medicine cabinet into an adorable display case for dishware and trinkets.
Our DIY guru, Fern purchased 2 of these medicine cabinets at the Riverside ReStore last summer for only $10 each! She couldn’t pass up a deal like that, even if she was not sure what she was going to do with them. It wasn’t until recently that she found inspiration for this project, repurposing this old medicine cabinet to an adorable display case.

First, the hardware and the doors were removed from the
base. Fern then painted the base of the medicine cabinet and one of the doors
with Linen white. After the Linen white dried, Fern applied stain, then dabbed
it off with a damp rag to give the piece a rustic, antique look. Next, with all hardware removed, Fern sprayed
the unit down with oil rubbed bronze.
The unit was then turned on it’s side. The door that was painted was attached with hinges to the small opening on the medicine cabinet. The space that was once covered by doors was left uncovered. Wood was then measured, cut, and painted for shelves on the inside of the door and on the open space. A rusted iron door knob was then added to the door.

To complete the project, Fern’s signature chalk board paint was added to the inside of the door. Tada! A gorgeous new display case for your dishware and trinkets. We just love how it turned out!
